About Home Cyber Guide

Free, plain-English digital safety for regular people — no jargon, no fear, no sales pitch.

What this is

Home Cyber Guide is a small, free library of practical guides that help families, homeowners, and caregivers make their Wi-Fi, devices, accounts, subscriptions, and online habits safer — without needing to be technical. Every guide is a plain-English explanation plus a short checklist you can actually finish.

Who it's for

  • Parents who want their kids' tablets and phones set up safely.
  • People caring for older relatives who worry about scam texts, fake calls, and banking.
  • Homeowners with a pile of devices, cameras, and subscriptions and no IT person.
  • Anyone who finds most "cybersecurity" advice confusing or scary.

What we believe

  • Basic digital safety should be easy to understand. If a guide needs a translator, it's not done yet.
  • You don't need to do everything — just the handful of things that actually matter.
  • No fear-mongering and no upselling. We'll tell you what's free and built-in before anything you'd pay for.
  • Your privacy comes first. No sign-up to read, and your checklist progress is saved on your own device, not on our servers.

How it stays free

The guides are free and always will be. The site is supported in two low-key ways: optional ads on some pages, and voluntary donations from readers who found a guide useful. There's no paywall, no required account, and no pressure. You can read more on the Privacy & Ad disclosure page.

Found a guide useful? 💛

Donations help us keep the lights on and write more guides — but the library stays free either way.

A friendly disclaimer

Home Cyber Guide provides general educational information to help everyday people improve their digital safety. It isn't professional security, legal, or financial advice, and following a checklist can't guarantee you'll never have a problem. When something is high-stakes — a suspected identity theft, a business breach, or money already lost — please also contact the relevant company, your bank, or a qualified professional.
